SpiceJet Officer Breaks Down What Happened On Flight That Caught Fire

New Delhi:

A bird hit the engine of the flight that made emergency landing in Patna today, damaging three of its fan blades, said a SpiceJet official as he shared details of what happened when fire was detected on the aircraft.

There was no indication of the fire in the cockpit and it was seen only by people on the ground and the Air Traffic Control (ATC), Captain Gurcharan Arora, Chief of Flight Operations, SpiceJet told NDTV.

The Delhi-bound flight was carrying 185 passengers and all of them were evacuated safely, officials said earlier. Videos shot by locals on the ground showed sparks coming out from its left engine.

Sharing the details of what happened during and after the bird hit, the official said, “there was a normal take-off. They heard a little thud on the left side. The little thud means normally suspicious, but there was no cockpit indication. Shortly after that they got a call from the ATC saying they have detected smoke and flames from the left engine (engine number 1).”

On the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) in such events, Captain Arora said the pilots announce a pan-pan, which is telling the world something is not okay, and run through a checklist. “And step by step, you shut down the suspect engine and then you land ASAP (As Soon As Practical) at the nearest airport,” he said.

That’s exactly what the pilots have done, he said.

Bird hits are regular feature and a few such incidents occur every month on various airplanes, the official further stated.

“Usually, bird hits occur in the airframe. So, there’s a small thud and no damage to the engine. Passenger airplanes are today made to withstand a lot of beating, they are very rugged and reliable – the airframe as well as the engine. So normally you wouldn’t even get to know about it,” he said.

However, in today’s incident, it was different.

Four Missing As Boat Capsizes In Brahmaputra: Assam Police

Water level is swelling at the place where the accident took place

At least four persons were missing after a boat capsized in the Brahmaputra river in Assam’s Dibrugarh district on Sunday, police said.

Nine people were travelling in the country boat, fitted with a motor, when it capsized at Rahmaria near Chabua, they said.

“Five persons swam to the bank, while four are still missing. We have called the NDRF, which is carrying out an extensive search in the entire area and downstream,” Dibrugarh’s Additional Superintendent of Police Bitul Chetia told PTI.

Dibrugarh Deputy Commissioner Biswajt Pegu, senior officials of the District Disaster Management Authority, Fires and Emergency Services personnel, and other officials are at the spot, he added.

Mr Chetia said that the missing persons have been identified as Shankar Yadav, Sangkur Kurmi, Dhamen Das and Kishan Yadav.

“They were going to Balijan after fetching milk and vegetables from Polobhanga Chapori. There are 60 households in Polobhanga and these people used to commute from Rahmaria to Polobhanga regularly,” he said.

All BJP Leaders Begin And End Their Talks With A Lie: Akhilesh Yadav

The Chief Minister also spoke about foundation laying and later inauguration of Purvanchal expressway for the people of Azamgarh.

Mr Yadav, in his turn, claimed credit for construction of Agra-Lucknow Expressway, and another project to connect Azamgarh with the state and national capital.

“It is well known that the Samajwadi Party government has constructed the Agra-Lucknow Expressway and in its sequel, Azamgarh will be replaced by the state capital Lucknow and had laid the foundation of the Samajwadi Purvanchal Expressway to connect Azamgarh with Lucknow and New Delhi.” Mr Yadav said in a statement issued in Lucknow.

Yadav claimed that land acquisition for the expressway was done under the SP rule and alignment was decided, but BJP stopped its work and changed the name.

“Samajwadis (socialists) always worked for the development of Azamgarh and entire Purvanchal (East UP) region,” he said.

“BJP always ignored Azamgarh and defamed it. The BJP is still betraying people. Its leaders including UP Chief Minister start and end their talks with a lie,” he said, adding that people of Azamgarh have always rejected BJP’s communalism and anti-development approach.

Mr Yadav said that the entire state and country is suffering because of the “anti-people” and “wrong policies” of the BJP government.

“Farmers, youths, traders — all are angry with the BJP government. State is facing inflation, unemployment and rising incidents of crime,” he added.

Video: Joe Biden Falls Off Bike; Gets Up, Says “I’m Good”

US President Joe Biden was biking with First Lady Jill Biden near their vacation home.

Washington: US President Joe Biden took a tumble as he was riding his bicycle near his beach home in the state of Delaware Saturday morning, but was unhurt.

A video from a White House pool report showed the 79-year-old president immediately getting up after his fall. He then says: “I’m good.”
He was biking with First Lady Jill Biden in a state park near their beach home in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware and had stopped to talk to onlookers when he fell.

The president told a small crowd of well-wishers and reporters that he had lost his balance as he tried to pull a foot out of a bike clip.

The result: “a mad scramble of Secret Service and press,” a White House pool report said, adding there were no visible scrapes or bruises from the fall.

“No medical attention is needed,” a White House official said. “The President looks forward to spending the rest of the day with his family.”

As the oldest US president, Biden’s health is the subject of constant attention, particularly as speculation rises on whether he will seek a second term in 2024.

In November 2020, shortly after his election but before taking office, Biden broke a foot while playing with his pet German shepherds.

But a year later, in November 2021, his doctor gave Biden a clean bill of health, describing him as “healthy” and “vigorous.”

Taking a few questions from reporters on Saturday, Biden said he was “in the process of making up my mind” about easing some Trump-era tariffs on Chinese goods in order to soften inflationary pressures.

He said he would be speaking to Chinese President Xi Jinping soon.

And asked if he was satisfied with progress on gun legislation — after mass shootings in Texas and New York brought new demands for action — Biden said only that he was happy with action by his home state of Delaware, which passed a ban on assault-style weapons.
